Three Hundred & Sixty Five Days – an open letter

When you were here, I took for granted every opportunity that I had to see you. I drove on HWY 64 East every evening at approximately 5:15 pm. I’d think to myself “I have to get home, I have to let the dogs out, I have to ‘do this’ and ‘do that'”. I apologize for not being the granddaughter that you deserved to see on a weekly basis, and I apologize for not picking up the phone every opportunity I had. I think of you every morning I do my hair and paint on my face, because you watch me. Each and every morning you sit and smile right there where I left your image the day before. Memories poor in and scatter all through my brain of how we used to sit and talk. Your dreams of me becoming a Marine-Biologist, using my talent for words and eye for different beauty. I smile because I can remember how you spoiled me growing up and provided me with all the love and “sugar” a little girl could ever want.

However, there are days, like today when I miss you most. You have been gone now for three hundred and sixty five days. An entire year that I have craved your love and laughter more than I ever thought possible. I keep my thoughts to myself most of the time, the tears stain my pillow and the dark creeps up – that’s when I miss you most. My thoughts are the devil and they take over my mind like a parasite, when I am most vulnerable. You are my guardian angel, taken too soon. I have missed you through all of my journeys I have accomplished – career wise, welcoming new family members, moving. You were always an ear to listen and give me guidance. You never judged me and when I knew that deep down you may not approve of what I had to say or the reason behind my decision, you listened. You opened your heart and chose to love me, guide me, and teach me. Your time to go was not June 19, 2015, you see you live on in each and everyone one of the family members that you and Papa created. From mom, all the way to little Landen and Averi. You are such an inspiration and I will never meet another woman quite as special as you.

Every morning I stayed with you, you’d cook me breakfast. Whether it was an omelet, or scrambled eggs. Some days it was cereal if you were tired and had a long night. Then I’d help you around the house, sometime’s we would go to the doctor and I’d ride with you and Papa. Many times you were busy cooking and cleaning however, if I needed my Free Willy VHS rewound, you would come back and do it for me. I always slept in your bed and held onto your pillows, they smelt so good. I used to eat pretzels with mayonnaise, I don’t know how I got started eating this but it was delicious. Papa and I would eat vienna sausages with apple cider vinegar, I always like sour cream with mine. You had a coloring set under the microwave cabinet, I think I drew a thousand and one pictures with those  colored pencils. The pantry was always stocked with the best goodies and snacks, you seemed to have an eye for what little kids like to eat even if those goodeis were bad for us. I always had to drink caffeine/sugar free Cola because of Papa, which tasted like watered down Cola. You wore a purple silk robe every time I saw you. I envied your beautiful sun kissed skin, and your long fingernails. Skin so soft, it felt like the sweetest most delicate silk fabric. You grew every flower known to man kind; orchids, roses, hydrangeas, lily’s, daisies, daffodils, gladiolus, iris’s, tulips, snapdragons, peony’s; it was like walking into a flower shop. You had the most talented green thumb (besides momma) I have ever witnessed. An angel sent from heaven to rescue those in your path, but God needed you back. He needed your green thumb and courage.

The last month and a half that you were here with me, I spent every day with you. I think it was a way for me to cope with you leaving so soon. I was able to help you in a way I never thought possible. You always helped everyone and no one was a stranger to you, it was time for you to be taken care of. I was blessed to have spent the weeks before you left with you. We discussed my future, my goals, and my deepest wishes. I was able to say goodbye without knowing I was, in my heart and mind I can accept not having you here because God has eased your pain. He has taken away the sorrow you felt within and the pain buried deep. Each and every day I think about you, your smile and laugh, and I am grateful to have been given the opportunity to be your mother’s namesake. I will make you proud and I hope you smile often from heaven. Keep your watchful eye over me as I grow into the woman that you and my mother raised. I wrote you a poem –

Mema’s Poem
Beauty does not rest
For the beauty you fulfill is enough to bloom inside me,
Strength does not lie
For the strength I see in you can move mountains,
Love does not hide
For your love guides me in the dark,
These I always look to you

I can’t thank you enough for loving me and being my grandmother, being my Mema. I am beyond blessed to have spent 21 years with you. Thank you. I love you now and forever and someday, when we meet again, we’ll meet on the moon. You, Papa, and I.

I love you Delories Jean Penny Denton.

I’m acutally not an ass.

Based on the title of this post you’re probably thinking how I am going to defend my “lady like” standards, right? Wrong. I will explain how politics have evolved my understanding of todays society, how I believe in “One nation, under God”, and how I am not a democrat. With the election running wild, Hillary Clinton’s version of the truth, and debates every week I figured that politics would be a good discussion. Now automatically because I am young, one would assume that I know absolutely nothing about history or what it means to be an American. However, when you ASSUME – you make an ASS out of U and ME. See what I did there? Let’s begin.

We have had eighteen Republican presidents enter into office. Abraham Lincoln, Richard Nixon, and Theodore Roosevelt have all upheld the conservative rights of each American. Those are just a few of the many men that have served as our president. All legal Americans have the right to live a free, equal, and just life. I am a Republican because I believe in a free market economy and Reagan-era principles. I will hold strong to the idea that it is a government’s job to provide protection for its citizens and that it requires a highly equipped and well-trained military to do so. I feel strongly that there are social programs enacted by the U.S. government that work but many more that do not. This expense falls back on the American taxpayer, while illegal immigrants aimlessly roam free of charge. While I believe in a woman’s right to choose, I also believe that life begins at conception and refuse to let a woman make the decision to kill a child because she is too irresponsible. However, there are instances when she should have the choice. These are the values that make me a Republican, and these are the unwavering beliefs that my party once held dear. Today, the political discourse of the GOP has taken a strange turn towards communism, the belief that everything is a gift and should be a hand out. My belief is that the country has guaranteed anyone and everyone “free” freedom. Take “marriage equality,” the new buzz term that both Democrats and Republicans alike seem to be using because it sounds less offensive than “gay rights.” My belief is that marriage is between a man and a woman and that the government has no place to force same-sex marriage.  We shouldn’t change our constitutional rights because the world knows no better.

I understand that times have changed and it’s a new era, but if we don’t get our government back the world will come to a crumble, hell in a hand basket. I believe we need someone who is a strong Republican this term, who favors the simple and constructive ways of being conservative. Race does not matter, gender does not matter. I’ll vote for you based on how you view this economy and what you plan to do for a better way of living. I will not vote for all the lies, scandals, and social media. Donald Trump is not on my quota, he is trying to be a celebrity. Sure he is brutally honest, and cannot be bought but do we encourage him to slander other candidates? No. Ben Carson doesn’t have the political background to support his spot in the race, however he must be intelligent if he can withstand a brain surgery on conjoined twins. He has a plan and I’d like to hear his strategies. Marco Rubio is smart, witty, and young. I think we need someone who understands the meaning of history yet realizes that the United States is progressing.  We are growing each day in both technology and today’s standards. Some things should never change, like the right to bear arms, marriage, and illegal immigrants. Carly Fiorina is a courageous business woman. She has discussed issues from immigration to education, and abortion to foreign policy. She has been said to be a whirl wind of a woman, and I support her. I will not discriminate when it comes to the presidential race. You could be as bright purple as barney, and as long as you have the same values and stand for the Republicans of the United States, you are definitely an option for me.

So I am not an ass, I would prefer to be called an Elephant.

Comment and let me know who you think would be the best presidential candidate!

Until next time!

So you think she loves you because you’re funny?

You have a magnetic pull towards her, its a science and you both have it mastered. You say you “love her” and this is what justifies the vows that were once said to one another so long ago? Try again. She loves every inch of your body for who are inside, that fire that burns deep within. Love never dies a simple death. Nothing about love is simple. Love dies between two people because of dishonesty, weariness, errors, and envy. You know the bible verse “Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.” This is that fire that I call love.

Love is the most vulnerable feeling that one could have, you completely open yourself up to another human. You share every raw emotion and heartfelt word. She loves you because when you speak of her name, there is a sea of emotion floating around. An honesty that is strong in your voice, and pounding in your heart. The smile exchanged from across the room, and the way you notice her most ugly scars, yet choose to kiss them instead of run. Trembling in the midnight air, together you are one. In this moment, through time and space no other woman could love you as strong and hard as she does. One morning you wake up with the crisp air fresh, you look over and whisper how beautiful she is to you, you love her with that same fire that dwells between you both.

In an instance you see that she loves you for exactly who you are and what you plan to be. The touch of your hand upon her cheek will burn forever, it was always meant to be you and her. There will never be another love as fortunate as what you have together, because of the fire that lives so fiercely inside you both.

Until next time, I felt all gooshy today!

! H O L I D A Y S !

As you can tell by the caption, this blog post will be about the HOLIDAYS! In exactly 33 days little children will be scrambling around like chickens with no head for HALLOWEEN! This means there are 12 Friday’s until CHRISTMAS! I am a lover beyond all things for this time of year; you can ask anyone who knows me that Christmas music begins playing in August for me! This time of year means love, hot cocoa, snuggle-time, and making “smoke” with your breath. I’ll begin explaining why I love Halloween and Christmas, which are two completely different holidays. Halloween is about being a true kid, I mean who doesn’t love dressing up?

Green goblins, pumpkins, black cats, and CANDY! Candy for days, to be exact. Halloween is an ancient holiday, going all the way back to the 18th century. It is a time of celebration and superstition. Thought to have originated with the ancient Celtic festival of Samhain (a festival ending the harvest season and beginning the “Dark Winter”) when people would light bonfires and wear costumes to ward off roaming ghosts. If I have done my correct research, Pope Gregory III designated November 1st as a time to honor all saints; the holiday, All Saints’ Day, incorporated some of the traditions of Samhain. The evening before was known as All Hallows’ Eve and later as we know today – Halloween. Children from all ages have put on layers of makeup, wigs, and fake teeth to dress up and go trick-or-treating. I thoroughly enjoy Halloween for two reasons; one – candy and two – I love the mystery, the guessing game of Halloween. Who is behind each mask, what character they are attempting to portray, the darkness and chill of Halloween is rather exciting. With this explain the pure bliss of Christmas.

Christmas – red and green, the smell of tree sap, cinnamon and an internal feeling of warmth. Christmas is not only about presents, food and family; no there is more to it. Jesus Christ was born on this day, se we should also celebrate his birthday. For thousands and thousands of years, people from all across the globe have celebrated this remarkable holiday. Personally, I genuinely love this specific holiday because despite a few of the average scrooge’s everyone seems to be in a happier more peaceful mood. Christmas isn’t just one day, from “Black Friday” until December 26th Christmas is in the air! Here is a little shocker, each year 30-35 million real Christmas trees are sold in the United States alone. There are 21,000 Christmas tree growers in the United States, and trees usually grow for about 15 years before they are sold. If you have ever had a real Christmas tree in the house, you’ll never be able to live down that fresh pine sap smell. Growing up we always had a real Christmas tree with big colorful lights and more presents under the tree than needed for a family of four. Love is the best part about this season. I fully believe that a love filled home is a Christmas filled home.

With all the holidays coming up remember that it isn’t about how much money you spend on someone, the amount of food you brought for Aunt Betty’s house party – it’s simply about love.

Do you have a favorite holiday?

Email me, I’d love to know!

Until next time!
